Celebrating Diversity at WEITZ: Embracing Inclusivity and Diversifying Local Construction

April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a time to recognize and celebrate diversity within our community, home, and workplace. The construction industry is a dynamic and vital sector, ensuring that community needs are met in various aspects. Embracing diversity in this field is not just about fairness; it’s about harnessing the potential to drive creativity, innovation, and excellence.

Weitz University is a new program introduced in 2023 that extends contract opportunities to local underrepresented businesses through ongoing training and resources. This program creates more opportunities for diverse and emerging local businesses in five distinct construction topics: Quality Control, Safety, Contracts & Bonding, Cost Control, and Schedule Management.

“I firmly believe the construction industry has an extraordinary opportunity to lead the way with equity. Weitz understands the importance of DEI across our business and industry, and I am excited to build on their DEI efforts by delivering meaningful and impact measures across the company.”

Shekinah Fountain, Senior Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Associate at the Weitz Company

The program instructors are highly skilled, with decades of experience in their fields. Participants will receive an overview of the construction topics with real-world applications of each concept for future contract work. Graduates of the program will receive a Weitz University Certificate of Completion, a guided Weitz Company prequalification process opportunity. They will also be added to future communications of upcoming job openings.

Internships are also an integral part of the Grow with Weitz mission, providing hands-on work experience, team-building, and an opportunity to learn how to “Build a Better Way.” The comprehensive program offers extensive experiences for those who apply with a designated peer partner, job assignments, training, and networking events.

Weitz offers interested applicants a wide range of programs including internships and sessions at Weitz University. To learn more about career opportunities with Weitz, visit their website https://www.weitz.com/careers/.
