As we dive into the heart of October, it’s time to celebrate Careers in Construction Month, a nationwide initiative showcasing the incredible opportunities within the construction industry. For those considering a career in construction, right now is a great time to explore the diverse pathways and training programs available to build a successful future.
And because Careers in Construction Day is Oct. 20, we’ll spotlight some of Arizona’s best skilled trades training programs, each offered by some of the industry’s leading companies. Let’s get to it!

From concrete technology and safety protocols to project management and sustainable construction practices, these comprehensive courses truly prepare participants for the dynamic world of concrete construction. And with a strong emphasis on hands-on training, apprentices gain crucial experience.

For those interested in an electrician career, DP Electric’s DP University program is a prime choice. Through hands-on training and a well-rounded curriculum focusing on safety, code compliance, and advanced technologies, DP University equips apprentices with the trade’s necessary knowledge and skills, and ensures they’re well-versed in the latest industry standards. Sundt Construction recognizes the significance of industrial technology in today’s construction landscape. That’s why they’ve partnered with Central Arizona College (CAC) to offer a comprehensive program. This program provides certifications and degrees in a range of technology-based skilled trades, including welding, machining, and industrial maintenance. And it preps participants in fields like diesel technology, welding, electrical, heavy equipment, and automated industrial technology. Apprentices benefit from CAC’s state-of-the-art facilities and experienced instructors.
Brewer Plumbing’s Brewer University and the Brewer Craftsman Academy is intensive, hands-on, and slightly different from other training programs. In this program, the company selects individuals to become cadets within the Craftsman Academy, to train you for a career as an Underground or Topout Specialist installing water distribution systems and drain waste & ventilation (DWV) installations. Once cadets have completed the course, they’re given the opportunity to accept a full-time career with Brewer.
Arizona Masonry Council’s Tender Training Program certifies participants in scaffold erection & dismantling, heavy equipment awareness, rigging, OSHA 10, First/CPR, stocking, mixing, shop drawing interpretation, and much more. Blending both classroom instruction and hands-on training, the program runs 17 consecutive Saturdays a year. And good news: They’re accepting applications through Nov. 22, 2023.
